Lingo is owned by Primus which is a public firm. They had a fair number of subscribers before Sunrocket with a focus on International. While I haven't used it their service quality had a pretty good reputation. Financially, they're probably pretty stable as I believe they're marginally profitable.

Cable VoIP is a pretty broad market in and of itself as different cable companies have different approaches to providing voice. I don't have any personal experience with these services.

Have you had any experience with Lingo, the company that purchased the SunRocket domain?
Have you or anyone else you know had experience with cable VoIP service?

For me, VoIP is a money saver. My family reside in India, and since most VoIP providers offer unlimited in-network calling, I send a router to them, they get a US number, and we can talk unlimited, all for under $25 per month! Before I had VoIP, my international bills were upwards of $100.

I agree that independent VoIP providers will have a tough market, but it will likely be because of the cable/broadband internet providers that triple-play with VoIP offerings.

Just my $0.02 :)

I'm with you - I don't know who will be clamoring for an iPhone. I think a large part of the market will be the young, techno-geek crowd - skewed towards the apple fanboys and girls. I would guess that we'll see more iphones purchased with personal money rather than business expense accounts. The launch will probably be similar to the StarTac release back in the 90s and the RAZR release more recently. The technophiles with disposable income will buy them right away, as will the Zoolander set who will be buying it solely for the cool / hip factor.

There is quite a bit of player hating and criticism about Vonage, but in a very short time they have become a household name.

Woo Hoo Woo Hoo Hoo
People do the dumbest things

Test yourself...what is at&t's, Verizon's, or Comcast's motto? Though the cost is high, brand equity is valuable.

Other things they should be praised for...

In my opinion, Vonage has not recieved the credit they deserve for their ease of installation. They have made it so easy to install their service that non-geeks are able to do it.

Additionally they should get kudos for their distribution channel. Walk into most US retail chain and you see Vonage. Getting shelf space is not an easy thing to do, they have done is very well.

I just hope they are able to come out of this patent situation whole. Voip needs good press in order for it to advance on the application side.
